Ludo Philippaerts

Born 22nd June 1963, Ludo Philippaerts comes from Genk, Belgium. Coming from an equestrian family, he learned to ride along with his brother Johan and sisters Greet and Rita. Ludo showed his talent from an early age winning his first regional championship at the age of 12.

This was the first of many victories for the Belgium rider, over the course of his career he would represent Belgium at four Olympic games, three world equestrian games and winning numerous grand prix`s.

 At the 1992 Summer Olympics, Ludo Philippaerts would compete the stallion Darco, finishing 7th individually. Darco would be a horse that would be a key part of Ludo`s career, not only did they win win numerous grand prix`s and other international classes, Darco would also sire numerous offspring who Ludo would compete with a great deal of success, these include the international jumpers Parco and Otterongo. Ludo Philippaerts is married with four children, twins Nicola and Oliva born in 1993, Thibaud born 2001 and Anthony 2003. His two eldest Nicola and Oliver are both following in Ludo Philippaerts steps and compete internationally.

Darco really was a career changing horse for Ludo Philippaerts, together they formed one of the best show jumping combinations in the world, winning many grand prix`s and representing Belgium at the 1992 Barcelona olympics. Darco went on to be a phenomenal breeding stallion, producing numerous international showjumpers with many different riders including Ludo Philippaerts.
