There was never any doubt that there was only direction for Joe. Coming from the Davison equestrian dynasty not only are horses in his blood, but elite level sport too. His father Richard is a four-time Olympic dressage rider and his mother Gillian's background is steeped in horses having hunted, evented, raced and produced the family's Olympic dressage horses and show jumpers.
With Olympic riders from all disciplines coming to the family home at Combridge for training, Joe has therefore grown up surrounded by the world's most successful horsemen.
At 13 years old Joe started receiving extra training from Irish Olympic show jumper Billy Twomey, and after leaving school and university based himself permanently with Billy. In 2012 he took an opportunity to move to former Olympic gold medallist Jan Tops in Holland before joining Ben Maher, as his second rider, for a short spell. During the time at the Maher stable Ben won his Olympic team gold medal.
Joe is now based back at Combridge and is building up an impressive team of show jumpers.
